To put your customer in control, you must try to understand some things;

Customers always want to be in charge of their decision making.

They don’t want you to push them to make a hasty decision.

Especially when you’re dealing with people who have melancholy temperament.

Since they are the king of the business, then you let them rule with their decisions.

As a business owner or sales person, it is advisable to give options to your customers to choose from.

Don’t impose any buying decision on them as this may result to unsatisfactory outcome.

What you should rather do is to give them a long list of options.

When I am being called for business consultancy, I always give my total attention to my clients.

I will allow them to explain the situation of the business and express their mind extensively.

I also let them say what they actually want from me and how they want it to be done.

In the process of listening, I will pen down all possible options.

I will never rule out their desire, I actually make their opinion the number one option.

Sometimes what they think is the best solution for their business may actually be wrong.

Their opinion may be towards “corrective measure” while my professional advise is towards “corrective + preventive measures”

Nevertheless, I place those options before them.

Just as the bible says in Deuteronomy 30:19

“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live”

In these verse, God gave options to everyone but He gave advise on the best option He will choose if He is in our shoe.

Same way I will present the options before my clients, explaining the “pros and cons” of the options.

At this point, the customer is making buying decision.

No push!!!

No personal influence!!!

No string attached!!!

This makes them comfortable and totally feel in-charge.

Dear business owner or sales person,

Next time you’re making your sales pitch, offering your product or services to your customers, ensure you have multiple options for them.

Tell them the reverberation of each of the option selected.

Let them plump for what best suit them.

Let them be in charge!!!
